about

Chi composed this piece not long after The Panache Orchestra shifted their home base to Chinatown in the Downtown L.A. area. It was Inspired by the free-roaming peacocks that live here and seeing one take flight. The piece alternates in asymmetric rhythm from 11/8 to 5/8. Listen carefully for the sounds of the peacock's call. (It sounds like they're saying "Mei-yo!" [No!] in Chinese.) This track was recorded on July 28, 2013 in Los Angeles, CA engineered by Bryan Dobbs. "Peacock Hill" may anchor a contemplated EP of TPO's odd-metered dance pieces.
